My wife is loving her $180/year TiVo Roamio OTA. But that’s the only cost! It (along with Netflix, Amazon Prime, Plex and Emby) enabled us to completely cut the cable earlier this year.

I’m blown away by most of these television fees. My wife and I get most of our commercial content from the public and university libraries (between the two, they have pretty much anything ever made), and get news and such from the Internet or sometimes our TV antenna. Technically, we are paying for the libraries through taxes, but that would be the case if we used them or not. It’s a better option than most people realize!

Either way, the only real reason I know anyone still has cable is to watch sports, which is one reason I’m not a big sports fan. I’d simply rather use that money for something else.
